How to refill lexmark 100 ink cartridges

The lexmark 100 ink cartridges are a bit more hard to refill than others, and they’re available for sale in cyan, magenta, yellow and black colors.

We’ve been able to find many people on the Internet looking for a way of restoring these ink cartridges. Unfortunately for us, they cannot be refilled, since a chip has been installed in them that stops recognizing the ink cartridge completely after it runs out of ink for the first time. No matter how much ink you inject in it, the cartridge will continue to say it’s empty and it needs to be replaced with a new one.

These chips work the same as phone chips: if you don’t have any money or credit saved in it, the phone won’t work regardless of what you do. However, there’s another lexmark ink cartridge that can be refilled, and it’s called by the same name and number: the lexmark 100A and 100XL cartridges.

As a company, lexmark has created an ink cartridge return program that allows you to send your empty ink cartridges back to them, and get a new one for only $5. This is an appealing program for many lexmark cartridge users, but the lexmark 100A and the 100XL ones can’t be traded in using this system.

You will need to may about $5 more than usual in order to buy one and refill it without problems. This ink cartridge will keep warning you it’s low on ink after every time you refill it, but you know it’s not the case and you can continue to print regardless of this error message.

You can refill the 100A and 100XL ink cartridges at any time with the use of dyed inks in all black, yellow, cyan and magenta colors.

As you know well, everything depends on the amount of ink you add to each ink cartridge. If you’re using a lexmark 100A black ink cartridge, you must inject 13ml of ink to it.

If, on the contrary, you’re working with lexmark 100XL A tricolor ink cartridges, please apply 6ml of ink to each color. Remember to do this very slowly, as you would on any other ink cartridge.

Ingredients you’ll need to refill lexmark 100A ink cartridges:

1. Four (4) syringes, one for each color.
2. Ink in all four (4) different colors.
3. A few napkins.
4. The same plugs that seal the ink cartridge. They will help you avoid any spills.

Refilling procedure for the lexmark 100 ink cartridges:

Step #1:
As usual, place your ink cartridge over a flat, easy-to-clean surface, and directly on a black piece of cloth for any ink spills that may occur during this process.

Step #2:
Insert the syringe needle exactly where the black and white colors meet; you can take a look at the following picture to get this right. Do not remove the label on the ink cartridge for the refill process, it could seriously damage both the cartridge and its chip.

Step #3:
Place the needle in the center of the sponge found inside the cartridge. However, don’t push it all the way through. We know the sponge is a little thick, but it’s also very delicate and won’t take a lot of strength, so do this softly. Inject the ink in the cartridge as slowly as possible, and always keep an eye out for any ink coming out of the bottom of the cartridge. if this happens, just take out the needled and everything will go back to normal.

Step #4:
Leave the orifice where the needle came in the cartridge completely open; this will help the ventilation and printing processes. Please keep in mind these cartridges, as well as many others, need a bit of air to make the ink flow inside it.
