Steps to refill 97 HP tricolor cartridges

The 97 HP tricolor cartridge is a high performance ink cartridge. It is a water based ink cartridge rated for about 560 pages when new and, after being refill that it can be obtained about 400 pages as long as it is filled as indicated below.

Normally it is convenient to know why each cartridge uses a specific ink, in this case the 97 HP tricolor ink cartridge useS water-based ink because that is the ink provided by the factory.

This ink is available in any store, even in computer stores, just by asking for cartridges refilling ink; the ink that is normally puts in Canon, Lexmark and HP cartridges. To know a little more about ink, please read our post about differences between dye ink and pigment ink.

Each of these cartridges must be provided with 6ml of ink for each color using three differente syringes. It is not advisible to use the same syringe to inject each color. If help is needed, please contact us by leaving a comment in this post.

Procedure to refill the 97 HP tricolor ink cartridge.

Before starting refilling any cartridge it is recomended to find an easy to clean place, it can be either a flat surface o a piece of wook. In case these type of surfaces are not available, a piece of black fabric will work, too.

Step No. 1
Remove the label from the ink cartridge. As it is been said before cartridges have a label on their top indicating their color and number, sometimes, users remove this label and throw it away; however, it is recomended to keep it in a safe place to be added later to the cartridge again.

In this way it is prevented the ink from drying inside the cartridge and help the durability of the sponge the cartridge has inside.

Step No. 2
Fill the three syringes with 6ml of ink. Just this quantity is recomended to be use in this cartridge.
Always take out of the syringes the air at their bottom to avoid inserting air in the ink cartridges. See image…

Step No. 3
Apply, very S-L-O-W-L-Y, to the cartridge, the quantity of ink indicated before. Always applying ink has to be done as slowly as possible so the sponge of the cartridge can absorb all the ink applied. See image about color schemes for 97HP tricolor cartridge.

Step No. 4
When the cartridges have been refilled with the indicated quantity of ink, it is recommended to place its label on it the same way it was before, again.

This label and the ditches at the top of the cartridge match perfectly to allow the airflow needed for the ink dropping down. If help is needed, do not doubt about contacting us by leaving a comment in this post.

Notes:
Let the cartridge rest for a moment before placing it in the printer, this allows the cartridge to completely fill all the ink sponge. The cartridge can be shaked with its head down so that the ink drops even more.

In case the ink cartridge presents problems like flashing among other problems when placed, try the following steps:
  • Remove the ink cartridge from the printer and clean its connectors 
  • Clean the printer connectors that get in contact with the cartridge connectors 
  • In case this do not solve the problem, leave the cartridge out of the printer and let the printer rest turned off for about 2 hours and then place the cartridge int he printer again
