How to check the ink levels on my HP officejet 5600 printer

This post will teach you how to monitor the ink levels in your HP officejet 5600 printer in a few simple step.

Monitoring the ink levels on your printer is very important, since some of them can stop working when they reach the lowest ones. If you’re using brand new, original ink cartridges and never refill them, your printer will keep track of the ink levels itself and it will show you how much ink is left in them every single time you print a document.

Now, there’s something you must keep in mind at all times: this ink monitoring tool is not exact and precise, and it will only help you organize your ink purchases.

If you’ve already installed a refilled ink cartridge in your printer, it will usually say it’s empty and will refuse to print until you’ve replaced it. If you want to learn more about this, please read our post regarding ink cartridges and what to do when the printer says they’re empty.

This post will offer you a solution for the HP officejet 5600 printer, but can also be used on any HP printer that was made around the same time and that works with the HP solution center program.

Procedure to monitor the ink levels on the HP officejet 5600 printer:

In this first tutorial, we will show you how to learn how much ink is left in your cartridges by using a program that complements your own printer’s drivers. This piece of software is called HP solution center, and acts directly on the printer’s own interface, which is in charge of printing, scanning and copying documents.

The HP solution center program is included in your printer’s installation CD. If you insert it in your computer, is should be installed automatically.

In order to get this program running, you will also need to install a page counter on your HP printer, which will then interact with the Hp solution center and will help you obtain the ink levels in your ink cartridges. You can download this program by clicking on this link.

Once the page counter and the HP solution center programs have been installed and are fully functional, you can continue to the first step.

Step #1:
First, click on the start menu on your desktop. If you’re using windowsxp, it should look like this. Now, click on the “all programs” option”, and select the HP solution center one.

In, on the contrary, you’re using windows vista, the start menu logo will look like this. You will need to click on it, and look for the “all programs” tag as well. This particular operating system will have everything organized in folders, so look for the HP one, click on it, and then select the HP solution center program inside it.

Now, if you’ve installed windows7 in your computer, you should also click on the start menu on your desktop. The logo will look exactly like the one on windows vista, so hit it, look for the HP folder and click on the HP solution center program.

Step #2:
Now that this program is running, please click on the “settings” option and then on “printer tool box.

Step #3:
Now, you must click on “device settings” and, then, on “ink level estimate.

Please remember an ink cartridge could already be empty even if the ink level monitor shows it has some left in it, since this program will only show you an estimate, not the exact amount of ink left inside the cartridge.

Procedure for reviewing the ink levels on your printer using its own system:

Just like the last tutorial, this one will only work on brand new, original brand ink cartridges. Again, you will only get an estimate of the ink inside them, but not an exact quantity of ink or pages left to print with that particular cartridge.

Step #1:
In order to identify the ink levels in your printer, you will need to print a file or open the printer properties menu in it. This is a more global way of reaching these levels, but it will depend on the operating system you’ve installed on your computer.

Step #2:
Now, please click on the “service” option, and then on the “device services” one. You will see a picture that looks like this on your screen.

Step #3:
Finally, click on “ink level estimation” on the menu, and your printer will show you an approximate of the ink left inside the cartridges.
